Commissioners recognize vaccine providers

The husband-and-wife team of Bretton and Stacey Walberg, who own Walberg Family Pharmacies, will be given Thiel College’s William A. Passavant Award on Sunday as part of the college’s 147th commencement exercises

The husband-and-wife team of Bretton and Stacey Walberg, who own Walberg Family Pharmacies, will be given Thiel College’s William A. Passavant Award on Sunday, May 9.

In Mercer County, Bretton Walberg would also like to be able to schedule appointments in more categories. He had 600 vaccines available for a Wednesday clinic at Thiel College in Greenville but only 280 eligible people signed up.

After the move, many smaller pharmacies, including Jamestown-based Walberg Family Pharmacies, have been shut out of receiving first doses of the vaccine.

Greenville Rotary Co-Presidents present Stacey and Bretton Walberg with the club’s Paul Harris Fellow award, for the couple’s service to the community in providing nearly 40,000 COVID-19 vaccinations since January.

Congressman Parke Wentling sent a letter to Governor Tom Wolf in response to the termination of Bretton Walberg and Walberg Family Pharmacies from the program.

Walberg Family Pharmacies came through with its own staff, along with more than 200 vaccine doses. Recently retired nurses also offered their services.


This is the pharmacy’s first time doing the vaccine clinic with no appointment needed

Last week, Walberg Family Pharmacies owners Stacey and Bretton Walberg announced their plan for a number of clinics to administer nearly 10,000 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to local communities. Since then, the Walbergs’ and staff have seen thousands of sleeves rolled up takers, relieved to get the first shot, eager to move back to some state of normalcy.

They received a total of 9,750 doses to be distributed over five days.

“We are not in a position to be evaluating … whether or not a patient has a chronic disease,” Bretton Walberg, the owner of Walberg Family Pharmacies said, citing federal privacy laws that safeguard patient information.

The owners of a small, locally based pharmacy chain have streamlined the process of giving COVID-19 vaccines in a way that its owners say could serve as a model statewide.

Within the next few days, Walberg Family Pharmacies anticipates having enough COVID-19 vaccines to inoculate hundreds of Mercer County residents.

Although the company doesn’t yet know when it will receive its doses, owner Bretton Walberg said they’ve received confirmation they will be receiving them. “We’re ready,” he said

Once the vaccine arrives, Walberg said his stores will set up appointments, just as they do now for COVID-19 testing
